Steam Recommendations
Like any good Steam user, I'm always on the hunt to drain my wallet dry buying games I might never get around to playing.
I was wondering if anyone has any good recommendations for Steam games? Especially cheap or on sale games.
As for my recommendations, if you haven't tried Binding of Isaac or Dungeons of Dreadmor, they are often on sale and have very addictive gameplay if you are into replayable rogue-likes. The Ship is another fun title that has a unique take on the "kill the other players" concept where you are tasked with killing one person while someone else is hunting only you!

Re: Steam Recommendations
To The Moon and Bastion are cheap titles that are awesome games. To The Moon is mainly story based but its very nice.
Re: Steam Recommendations
I totally recommend Garry's mod plus half-life 2 and Counterstrike: Source so you can play the awesome mods Trouble in Terrorist Town and The Hidden, if you get a bunch of mates together online to play them it's funny as all hell.

Re: Steam Recommendations
I hear everyone talking about Bastion but when I watch videos of it it doesn't jump out at me. Is there something I'm missing?
I'd like to get Half-Life as well, but I'd like to get the original first. I like to play a series in order if the plot of the series is important.

Re: Steam Recommendations
Bastion's pretty cool, the style is quite interesting, I liked the combat as there are lots of different options but they all feel worth using/trying while being simple to use as well. I think the biggest draw is the narration of the story and action throughout the game, it makes it feel like an interactive story book.
There's a free demo on steam, check it out and then if you like it put it on your wishlist for the next steam sale!

Re: Steam Recommendations
Bastion is a top down point and shoot dungeon crawler. There is also a voice over commentary from one of the NPCs who draws you in and keeps you going. If you don't mind dungeon crawlers, try the Torchlight series. They are usually on sale for >$20AUD
Re: Steam Recommendations
I have been playing Trine 2 lately with a friend of mine. That is a fun game. Cheapish as well.
Re: Steam Recommendations
I have to throw in with To The Moon and Bastion as well actually.
Bastion is highly rewarding and entertaining gameplay, and the story is excellent. It is basically a study in how to do video game story-telling - The narrative is interwoven through the gameplay as opposed to being forced on you in extensive cutscenes outside of the gameplay. As you play you'll be engrossed in the world. I consider it a must-play - also, it has one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard for a game, definitely in my top ten game sound tracks (and there are some tough contenders)
Another great I have to recommend is Trenched, or "Iron Brigade" which is it's other title. This is a really fun optionally multi-player mech-based game that splices Tower Defense with tactical third-person shooting. This is by Double Fine, so you know it has to be good. Really rewarding gameplay that has depth and cutomizability as you pilot mobile trenches in a WWI setting against evil living televisions called "Tubes". Oh-so worth playing. While we're at it get the rest of Double Fine's games because Tim Schafer is just awesome. Costume Quest, Stacked, Psychonauts, they should all be available on Steam.
Oh and From Dust is pretty cool too, it's like a small little civ game where you help villagers survive natural disasters through terramorphing the water, lava and earth around them.
